About Dr. Helen Olaoye
Dr. Helen Olaoye, MD,
B.CH., BAO, FRCPC
FOUNDER AND PSYCHIATRIST
Dr. Olaoye is certified in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) by the International Society for ECT and Neurostimulation (ISEN) and integrates evidence-based psychotherapies—including CBT, IPT, and psychodynamic therapy—into her work. Dr. Olaoye has presented on cultural considerations in perinatal depression and maintains scholarly interests in the use of psychotropics during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Beyond her clinical and academic work, Dr. Olaoye is actively involved in teaching, mentorship, and community leadership, including contributions to national psychiatry committees and medical education initiatives. She is the founder of Outpour Clinic, a mental health consultation service designed to offer timely, expert psychiatric care with a focus on equity, collaboration, and cultural humility.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
Dr. Helen Olaoye is a board-certified psychiatrist with focused expertise in perinatal psychiatry, cultural psychiatry, and neurostimulation. She works clinically at The Ottawa Hospital and serves as a lecturer with the University of Ottawa’s Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Olaoye completed her medical training at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and her psychiatry residency at the University of Ottawa. She brings a compassionate, culturally responsive approach to mental health care, shaped by her lived experience as a Black physician, mother, and advocate. Her clinical interests include perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, trauma-informed care, and supporting racialized individuals and families navigating the mental health system.
